Quip Enterprise Considerations

  • Documents will be listed under the custodian selected during the collection workflow.

  • Quip's formatting exists mainly within their platform. We try our best to replicate it but in some cases may not get an exact match.

  • We do not receive content from the following App styles on Quip. However, any content that is written directly to the page, such as text, titles, or comments (for instance - comments made on a Kanban card) we do collect as it falls under their API. We also collect the document's metadata.

    • Kanban

    • Calendar

    • Project Tracker

    • Process Bar

    • Poll

    • Countdown

A number of the other App pages that they offer, such as Product Launch Plan or Account Review, are combinations of the app styles above.

Quip Enterprise Requirements

In order to connect to Quip Enterprise you must create a new authorized connection for the Quip Enterprise connector. To do so, you must ensure you have:

  • Access to an admin account in Quip

  • The Admin API must be enabled on your account by Quip prior to running a collection.

  • A 'Client ID' and a 'Client secret' generated when creating a new API key in Quip.

    • You can create a New API Key from the Quip Admin Console then "Settings → Integrations".

    • Onna requires the "USER_READ" and "ADMIN_READ" Permission Scopes.

    • An redirect URI can also be set -

When going through the authorized connection process, after you enter the ‘Client ID’ and ‘Client secret’ you’ll be directed to an OAuth flow. In order to complete the set-up of the authorized connection you’ll need to go through that OAuth flow.

How to Connect and Collect Using Quip Enterprise

To get started collecting from Quip Enterprise, follow the steps below:

Step 1

To begin, navigate to the workspace that you want to add your Quip Enterprise source to and then click the blue ‘+’ icon in the upper right corner of the screen.

Step 2

Next. click on the ‘Quip Enterprise’ icon from the list of connectors.

Step 3

You’ll now see a new window appear called “Add new Quip Enterprise”. On this window, first enter a name for your new source in the ‘Name’ field (a). Then either switch to a new authorized connection account (b), or continue using the existing authorized connection (c).

Step 4

On the next screen you’ll choose which types of content you want to collect–folders and/or chats (a), select a sync mode from the three available (one-time sync, auto-sync, or auto-sync and archive) in the ‘Synchronization mode’ field (b), set a ‘Sync start date’ (c) and a ‘Sync finish date, if applicable (d). Then, click the blue ‘Next’ button (e).

Step 5

You’ll now add the custodians you want to collect data for. You can do this by either manually adding emails in the ‘Account’ field (a), or selecting custodians from a list by clicking ‘Load users list’.

Step 6

After selecting the folders you want to sync, you can put a check mark in the box under ‘Future content’ to collect future content related to selected custodians (b).

When complete click the blue ‘Done’ button (c).

Step 8

You’ll now see your new Quip Enterprise source appear.

Viewing Quip Pages in Onna

All Quip pages are stored as HTML - this is the format that Onna receives them in. We try our best to replicate this formatting on the platform. Remember that you can always get to the original document in Quip from Onna by clicking the arrow within the document viewer.

Quip pages in Onna have 4 sections:

  • Quip Content from the Document

  • Metadata about the document included users who have access

  • Chat History

  • Edit History (only available for Quip Document, not spreadsheets or presentations)

Chat notes are stored at the bottom along with all other metadata collected regarding the page. Changes to the Quip page will show up at the bottom of the page in Onna - edits will be demonstrated in green and deleted content in red.
