This topic contains high-level procedures to help you log in to the TRIAL DIRECTOR Web Portal for the first time, activate your account, download the TRIAL DIRECTOR client, and install the TRIAL DIRECTOR client.

The following illustration shows the basic process outline.

Review the Prerequisites

The following table shows the prerequisites that must be in place before you start:

64-bit Microsoft Office Upgrade, if Required

TRIAL DIRECTOR does not support certain 32-bit versions of Office. Review the System Requirements for TRIAL DIRECTOR to determine if your version of office is supported. If it is not, uninstall it and install a 64-bit version instead.

Update Eclipse SE

If you are installing TRIAL DIRECTOR on a machine that has Eclipse SE installed on it, make sure the Eclipse SE version is 2018.0.0. If you have a previous version of Eclipse SE, upgrade to the latest version before installing.

Create Load Files

If you are installing TRIAL DIRECTOR on a machine that has TrialDirector 6.8 (or a previous version), create load files for your cases before installing. You can import these cases into TRIAL DIRECTOR after installation.

Ensure Local Admin Rights are Set

In order to install TRIAL DIRECTOR, the user completing the installation must have local administrative privileges on the machine where the installation is taking place. If the user attempts to install without having local admin privileges, the installation will fail.

Address Local and Network Security

In addition to installing with elevated Administrator privileges, users need to temporarily disable all security or antivirus prior to beginning the installation process. Some environments may require complete uninstallation of security. Security can be reinstalled, reenabled, and configured after install. Failure to follow the above steps may force a complete uninstall and reinstall.

Log in to the TRIAL DIRECTOR Web Portal

When you purchase TRIAL DIRECTOR, you will be sent an email containing your username and temporary password for your TRIAL DIRECTOR account.

  1. Click on the link in the email to access the TRIAL DIRECTOR Web Portal, or visit trialdirector.com.

  2. Using the login credentials supplied in the email, log in to the Web Portal.

Before you can install TRIAL DIRECTOR on your local machine, you must first activate your Ipro account.

Note:

Activating your account is easy. You just log in, go to your account page, and accept the End User License Agreement. This process is explained below.

Activate Your Account

To activate your TRIAL DIRECTOR account:

  1. Log in to the TRIAL DIRECTOR Web Portal.

  1. The first time you log in to the Web Portal, the system will prompt you to read and sign the End User License Agreement. The End User License Agreement (EULA) wizard displays.

  2. Read the EULA and, when finished, click the Accept button.

  3. Update the password for your account and click Next.

  4. The final page of the wizard, confirms that your acceptance of the EULA has been recorded. Click the Finish button.

Download the TRIAL DIRECTOR Client

To download the TRIAL DIRECTOR client, follow the steps below:

Note:

These steps assume that you have activated your Ipro account following the instructions in the "2. Activate Your Account" on page 1 section.

  1. Log in to the TRIAL DIRECTOR Web Portal. The My Account page displays.

  2. If this is the first time that you have logged in to the portal, system will walk you through the process of downloading the desktop installer. The Welcome message displays, click Next.

  3. An instruction box appears at the top right corner of the page, which provides instructions for how to download the application. Disable your pop-up blocker before you click the Download Clients button.

  4. Once your pop-up blocker is disabled, click the Download Clients button.

The TRIAL DIRECTOR install package downloads to your local machine.

Note:

If the installation package does not automatically download, check your browser settings again. Make sure you have properly turned off the pop up blocker for the TRIAL DIRECTOR Web Portal URL.

If this is the first time you are downloading the install package when the download begins, the following message displays.

Proceed to the next step, installing the TRIAL DIRECTOR client.

Install TRIAL DIRECTOR Client

Important:

Minimum System Requirements are as follows:

OS - Microsoft Windows 10 64-bit

CPU - Quad-Core Processor

System RA - 8 GB

Disk space - 256 GB

Graphics card - 1 GB dedicated memory

You cannot install TRIAL DIRECTOR on a Oracle VM VirtualBox.

To install the TRIAL DIRECTOR client:

  1. After the TRIAL DIRECTOR installation package is finished downloading, locate the TRIAL DIRECTOR installation package and double click on the file.

    The TRIAL DIRECTOR Installation wizard displays.

  2. Click Next to continue.

    The Select Installation Folder page of the wizard displays. The default installation path is C:\Program Files\Ipro Tech\Desktop\. We recommend that you install TRIAL DIRECTOR to the default installation location. TRIAL DIRECTOR must be installed to a local (fixed disk) path. It cannot be installed to a network location.

    Note:

    If you want to install to a different local path, click the Browse button to browse to the folder where you want TRIAL DIRECTOR installed or enter a valid path in the Folder field.

  3. Click Next to continue. The Network Data Store Path Configuration page of the wizard displays.

    • If you do not have Eclipse SE or a prior version of TRIAL DIRECTOR installed:

      • Select the location where you would like the Network Data Store to be located. The Network Data Store is used to synchronize changes to cases in a multi-user environment. You must enter a network UNC path that is accessible by all case users.

    • If you do not have Eclipse SE or a prior version of TRIAL DIRECTOR installed:

      • Select the location where you would like the Network Data Store to be located. The Network Data Store is used to synchronize changes to cases in a multi-user environment. You must enter a network UNC path that is accessible by all case users.

    Note:

    It is strongly recommended that you use a UNC path, rather than a mapped drive, for the Network Data Store path. Mapped network drives may not be consistent across all workstations within a multi-user environment.

    The Ready to Install page of the wizard displays. Click Install.

    The installation process begins. TRIAL DIRECTOR is installed in the location indicated on the Select Installation Folder page of the wizard.

    Important:

    For Upgrades: During the upgrade process, the existing TRIAL DIRECTOR application files are automatically removed. It is not necessary to remove any existing TRIAL DIRECTOR deployments prior to upgrading.

    Any existing TRIAL DIRECTOR cases are automatically preserved and will be accessible once the upgrade process is complete.

    It will take several minutes to complete the upgrade process.

  4. When the installation/upgrade and deployment process is complete, the final page of the wizard displays. Click Finish to exit the wizard.

You can launch the application two different ways:

  • By double-clicking on the TRIAL DIRECTOR desktop shortcut

  • By selecting the TRIAL DIRECTOR by Ipro Start menu program shortcut.

When you launch TRIAL DIRECTOR you will automatically be logged in using the user credentials you used on the previous version of TRIAL DIRECTOR.
