Responses generated by Ask include citations from document text when available. These citations are displayed as cards in a vertical list, grouped by document. Ask Citations provide additional transparency by identifying the sources of information and facilitating further review of the cited results.
Citation Card Navigation
The image below shows the results returned for the question “Who is Sally Beck?”.
For the example results, three high-match references are presented, sourced from two different documents.
The Open <#> cited docs button will launch the cited documents in the Document Viewer.
Users can click the Show button to display all citation cards, including those for references with lower percentage matches.
Reference Number Highlighting
In the image below, reference number 2 is selected.
Clicking the cited reference number in an Ask response automatically navigates to the correct citation card for the associated document and highlights the cited text.
Clicking anywhere within the expanded card will deselect and collapse it.
Providing Additional Instructions
Users can provide additional instructions to enhance the results of a question—allowing for more detailed insights and customized responses. This flexibility enables users to interact with document content in various ways. Below are the steps to add instructions to a question:
In the question pane, click More Details to display an additional text box where instructions can be added.
Additional Instructions can include examples such as specifying details from document metadata, translating the response into another language, or presenting the information in a different format. For instance, the instruction “List the references by communication dates” has been added to the same example question discussed in the sections above.
Adding additional instructions modifies the overall scope of the question. In the example, more references are cited to list communication dates related to the individual. The response is formatted according to the instructions and includes a relevant summary of the results.
