Collect Slack Enterprise Data

Prev Next

The Slack Enterprise integration allows organizations to collect Slack conversations and messages from custodians as part of a legal hold. Administrators can configure the integration at the subscription level, create Slack collection locations, and enable collections for individual holds. Collections are processed through Onna, with their status tracked in Reveal Hold.

Create a Slack Enterprise integration

A System Administrator can configure the Slack Enterprise integration from the subscription settings.

  1. Navigate to Admin Center > Subscription > Integrations.

  2. Click .

  3. In the Integration Type dropdown, select Slack Enterprise.

  4. Select the Tenant and click Next.

  5. In the Slack sign-in window, enter your Slack workspace URL and click Continue.

  6. Select Enter email and password.

  7. Enter the Slack administrator’s email address and password, then click Sign In.

  8. Enter the authentication code from your authenticator app, if prompted.

  9. Click Allow to authorize the Onna Discovery app to access Slack.

  10. Return to Reveal Hold and click Save.

After the integration was created successfully, it appears in the Integrations grid with its status set to Enabled.

Create a Slack collection location

After configuring the integration, create a location to specify which Slack conversations to collect.

  1. Navigate to Admin Center > Subscription > Locations.

  2. Click Create Location.

  3. Enter a Name for the location.

  4. Under Preservation Type, select Slack Enterprise. The Source field automatically displays Slack.

  5. Select a Source Value Type:

    • All Conversations: Collects all channels and direct messages.

    • Only direct and multiparty messages: Collects direct and group messages only.

  6. Select the Tenant and click Save.

The new location appears in the Locations grid.

To collect different types of Slack conversations separately, create another location and select a different Source Value Type. For example, one location can include all conversations, while another collects only direct and multiparty messages.

Configure Slack collection settings

Once the Slack integration and locations are configured, you can enable Slack collection for a hold.

  1. Create or open a hold and add the custodians whose Slack data needs to be collected.

  2. Navigate to the Collection tab.

  3. Click Edit Collection Settings.

  4. Enter the Collection Start Date and Collection End Date.

  5. Verify that Onna is selected as the Target Location.

  6. Under Collection Locations, enable the Slack locations you want to collect from.

  7. Enable Auto-Sync if the collected data should continue to be updated.

  8. Click Save.

A card appears for each enabled Slack location, displaying the number of custodians with Done, In Progress, To Do, and Failed counts.

Click on Start Collection, then click Yes in the confirmation dialog.

The collection starts in Onna. The status initially displays Not Collected until the collection is completed.

Note

Starting a collection again also recollects previously collected records.

To start a collection for an individual custodian, click the Start icon in the corresponding custodian row.

Reveal Hold retrieves Slack collection statuses through the Onna integration. These statues can be:
