Basic Terminology
Reveal Hold – the segment of the Reveal platform that provides legal hold, in-place preservation, collection, and workflow automation.
Reveal Enterprise – the segment of the Reveal platform containing processing, analytics/AI, review and productions.
In-Place Preservation – the ability to hold or “lock” data in place making it immutable to intentional or unintentional custodian deletions. This capability requires special availability at the data source through native tools such as Microsoft Purview, Google Vault, Slack Enterprise Grid and more.
Collection – the ability to collect or “export” the relevant ESI from the native data source. This capability requires availability at the data source through native tools such as Microsoft Purview, Google Vault, Slack Enterprise Grid and more.
Evidence Repository – a well-defined and designated area in a local or cloud storage area where your ESI is staged and managed for your temporary or long-term eDiscovery needs.
UNC / SMB / File Share – a file share also referred to as Universal Naming Convention (“UNC”) or Server Message Block (“SMB”) is a storage area commonly used as an eDiscovery Evidence Repository.
Azure Blob – a cloud storage feature found within Microsoft Azure which can be used as an eDiscovery Evidence Repository.
AWS S3 Bucket / Folder – a cloud storage feature found within Amazon AWS which can be used as an eDiscovery Evidence Repository. Reveal Enterprise customers are provided with an AWS S3 folder for staging data they intend to process and host in Reveal.
HRIS – most organizations use Human Resources Information Systems (“HRIS”) software tools to maintain and manage their employee information and other HR-related policies and procedures. In the context of Reveal Hold, the ability to integrate with tools such as SAP Success Factors enables legal teams to understand what custodians under hold are terminated, which may change the course of the hold.
Interview / Survey / Questionnaire – part of the legal hold process includes the need to interview, survey or questionnaire custodians.

What data sources does Reveal Hold support for In-Place Preservation “IPP” and how exactly does this work?
Reveal Hold is deeply integrated with many of today’s modern data sources. The integrated is built to use the data sources existing eDiscovery tools. For example, with Microsoft data sources, Reveal Hold integrates directly with Microsoft Purview. The biggest differentiator with Reveal Hold’s approach is collapsing a multi-step, time-consuming workflow into a single-click.
The data sources listed in the table below have support for In-Place Preservation. You’ll also notice that for many data sources, you can filter the volume of data being preserved using date ranges or basic keywords.

Do I need any type of special licensing with my data sources to work with Reveal Hold In-Place Preservation or Collections?
Licensing requirements differs for each of the data sources, however the following are minimum licenses required for support with Reveal Hold:
Microsoft 365: Minimum of E3 support with Purview Basic eDiscovery, E5 support with Purview Premium eDiscovery also available.
Google Workspace: Requires Google Vault.
Slack: Minimum of Business+ for collections, Enterprise Grid required for in-place preservations.
Are there any data sources that Reveal Hold can collect from? What about data sources that Reveal Hold does not have connectors for?
Using our embedded agent technology, Reveal Hold can collect data from any file share / UNC / SMB path, even if a connector does not exist. For example, if your eDiscovery workflow requires your Forensics team to provide you other file types such as an E01, L01 or PST files, the locations of these files can be setup in Reveal Hold. Once setup, Reveal Hold can quickly browse these locations, pickup the necessary files and add them into your eDiscovery Evidence Repository. This Evidence Repository can be a File Share, an Azure Blob, or an S3 Bucket.
Does Reveal Hold integrate with Active Directory or HR tools for employee management?
Reveal Hold integrates with Active Directory for employee synchronizations, as well as common HRIS tools such as SAP Success Factors.
Does Reveal Hold automatically capture employee changes such as: termination, name change, title change, department shift, etc?
Reveal Hold tracks critical employee changes and allows you to see visualize this information. Included is intuitive reporting which highlights they key changes and allows you to drive to business decisions much faster.
Is there a limit to the number of custodians, holds, or notifications that I can send or manage?
Reveal Hold does not limit to you the number of custodians, holds or notifications that you send or manage. We provide you with a robust set of tools and give you the flexibility to manage your entire hold process within a single pane of glass.
Does Reveal Hold offer customizable notice templates or interview/survey/questionnaire templates?
Reveal Hold includes allows you to create unlimited amounts of notice, reminder, escalation, awareness, and release templates. Additionally, you can create an unlimited number of electronic interview/survey/questionnaires templates. In-person or offline custodian interviews can also be memorialized in a dedicated interview section of the platform.
What type of reports are available for me to use?
Reveal Hold includes 25+ reports that can generate details either at a case level or globally across hundreds of holds. Report types include: hold status, survey responses, preservation status, collection status, attorney reports, project insights, project summary, employee changes, and more.
Is there an integration plan between Reveal Hold and Reveal Enterprise?
Reveal Hold allows users to easily collect data and stage it in your Reveal-provided AWS S3 folder, eliminating the need to perform manual transfers and uploads. In 2024, Reveal Hold will be able to initiate workflows which will enable processing workflows to automatically begin once data has been uploaded, significantly reducing overall time to review.
